Play Lost and Found, with Tracking

What is it: Similar to manhunting, or a lost person search and rescue effort, you and your dog will be following the footsteps of the track layer for hundreds of yards with a number of turns.  The track layer (which could be yourself to start) walks a path that doesn't cross over on itself in a field or urban type environment, and then the track is aged. Along the path there may be one or more articles (the track layer's "personal" items) that your dog must also locate in order to qualify. You'll have to learn to trust your dog in every turn they make in order to make it to the end of the track.

Venues and Rules

Tools and Training

You will need treats, a long line, harness or collar for this activity, scent articles (i.e. an old sock or glove), or a track layer.

Benefits for you and your dog:

  • Mental Stimulation - This activity really encourages your dog to focus on using their nose to determine where to go next for a pretty long run time.

  • Natural Ability - We all know that dogs have a MUCH better sense of smell than we do - focus on that and let your dog explore their senses.

  • Bonding - You and Klee Kai will learn how to work closely together as a team.
